The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast is excited to announce the hiring of Mina Donkor as Area Director to lead all activities of the Northern San Luis Obispo County Club sites. These include Clubs at Flamson Middle School, the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy and Shandon Middle School. Altogether, Ms. Donker will lead 17 full and part time staff and make decisions that benefit the 100’s of children in North San Luis Obispo County who benefit from Boys & Girls Club services and programs every year. She also comes on board at at time of significant growth in North San Luis County services with the opening of the new, flagship Tom Maas Clubhouse, set to open in Fall of 2022. Growth in the number of children who can be served is expected to double with this new Club site.
Her background coordinating educational programming for People’s Self Help Housing, along with her M.A. in Education makes her highly qualified to ensure Boys & Girls Clubs evidence-based, and outcome driven programming is delivered with the highest excellence possible. Mina’s skills as an educator, herself, will help her train her own programming staff to be as creative and engaging as possible so that young people participating in our Club programs will have the best experiences possible. Mina also serves as an Associate Professor of Education at Westcliff University so is able to stay current with all data and trends related to early childhood and elementary education which will only benefit all of our staff, Club members, and their families.
Mina says, “I feel very passionately about advocating for others and creating an environment in which everyone feels heard, is treated equally, and have the resources that they need to be successful in whatever they choose to do. All while having fun along the way,” which are sentiments very much aligned with the philosophy of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast. Mina moved to the United States when she was 10 years old and became a member, herself, of the Boys & Girls Club in her area. She shares, “It was a place I went to make friends, have fun, learn about a new country I was in, and get help in my academics,” all things many of our current Club members will also relate to.
