PreK and TK Program Launches in Santa Maria

Did you know BGCMCC has started a preschool, TK (Transitional Kindergarten) and Kindergarten program at our Railroad Clubhouse in Santa Maria? Our program started the first week of December and we’re off to an adorable start!  Partnering with our nearest school neighbor, Robert Bruce, our program was first open to Robert Bruce students needing a PreK to Kinder program.  We open for before-school care for the Kinder students beginning at 7 am and all program participants can stay until 6:30 pm.  Club staff escort participants back and forth between the Clubhouse and the school campus.

We provide snacks for our members and we run fun, engaging activities that are suited for their level of enjoyment. We offer art programs, high gross motor skill activities, physical education programs and social and emotional development activities. A very well-received activity was making fresh brownies to enjoy with warm milk during our recent cold and rainy days!  This program has been a great benefit to local families who struggle to find affordable services for their out-of-school aged children.  Xavier (age 5) says “I like coming because my big brother comes too and I get to play with blocks,” summing up how multiple children from the same family can benefit from the Boys & Girls Club experience.  Stephanie (age 5) says her favorite part of being a Club Member is doing art, playing with the nice staff and being with her best friend, Sofia.

Our program recently opened to Oakley elementary and Fairlawn elementary—schools also within walking distance of the Railroad Clubhouse—so Club staff also provide pick up and drop off service.  For more information about this new program, please contact Josue Rojo, Program Director.
