On October 5th, the Shandon Members celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Our day began by watching a few videos about the significance of recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. After, they chose Hispanic heritage coloring pages to color and answered questions about influential Hispanic Americans who made history. They proceeded to eat quesadillas made with flour tortillas while listening to traditional Hispanic music played by Vicente Fernandez, Selena, Shakira, etc. At the end of the day, staff introduced a traditional game to the Members called, “Calabaceado”, which the kids enjoyed playing. After several rounds, winners were chosen and given a “Jarrito” drink to take home.
