Summer Fun Theme Weeks at Tom Maas

This summer the Staff decided to theme each week of the summer. We got together as an team and planned a different theme week to make a memorable summer for our Members

Here’s what we did so far:

 

Week 1 Science week 

 Our Members had the opportunity to do awesome science projects such as volcanoes, elephant’s toothpaste,salt painting, magic milk etc. Our Members explored science activities through rotations of reading, science, art, teambuilding, sports,and history. All of our activities were based on the theme of the week. Each activity has a lesson attached where the Staff explains the activity and  the science behind it and then lets the Members explore each activity. 

 

Week 2 Eco Week 
This week was all about recycling and saving the planet. Our members did activities such as magazine flower bouquets, oil spill clean up experiment, team recycled gardens, recycled cars, etc. Our Members explored eco activities through rotations of reading, science, art, teambuilding, sports,and history. All of our activities were based on the theme of the week.

 

Week 3 Around the world week 

 This week we did activities based on different places around the world. Our activities consisted of origami, stained glass, envelope Matryoshka dolls, dream catchers, etc. We also read stories such as Marching to Freedom, The New Girl, and Odd one out. Our Members had a lot of fun learning about different places and cultures from around the world. Some of the places we explored through our activities were Russia, Asia, and Mexico. Our Members explored around the world activities through rotations of reading, science, art, teambuilding, sports,and history. All of our activities were based on the theme of the week.

 

Week 4 Disney/Marvel week 
This week our Members explored activities related to Disney and Marvel. We read Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, little red riding hood, etc. Our crafts consisted of Forky, mickey mouse memory game, pac man tag, etc. The Members learned about the oldest Castle in Germany, the opening and history of Disneyland, and fun facts about Walt Disney.  Our Members explored Disney and Marvel activities through rotations of reading, science, art, teambuilding, sports,and history. All of our activities were based on the theme of the week.

 

Week 5 Under the sea week 

Our Members explode under the sea activities through rotations of reading, science, art, teambuilding, sports,and history. All of our activities were based on the theme of the week.

We made an ocean in a bottle, a blowfish out of paper, starfish salt dough with flour, etc. Our Members learned how hales stay warm using ice water and vegetable shortening. The Members had fun learning about erosion and how it affects the ocean, as well as t6he history of whales and dolphins.
