Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley recently hosted its Annual International Day of the Girl event for hundreds of local girls, and a few members of our team joined in on the festivities!
Board President Debbie Perrault, Events Manager Kelly Brickey and Director of Teen Services Mina Donkor all attended the celebratory event as mentors for many teen girls in the Bay Area. They all looked pretty in pink as they got to know their mentees at each table, breaking the ice with an interactive bingo-type game, in which everyone collaborated to fill in the squares with those that represented the personality trait or dream. The boba teas flowed and snacks were passed as everyone got acquainted with one another, with mutual inspiration filling the student center at San Jose State University.
Keeping the motivation high, NBC Bay Area Morning Anchor Laura Garcia moderated a panel of strong businesswomen including US Army Second Lieutenant and 2024 Miss USA, Alma Cooper, California Comcast VP of External Affairs, Zenia Zaveri, West Coast Community Bank CEO, Krista Snelling, President of Gidel & Kocal Construction Company, Inc. Ashley Gidel and Bay FC Co-Founder, Danielle Slaton. Each of the women on the panel dove deep into their backgrounds and how they were inspired to become leaders in their respective industries. They each gave their own tidbits of advice on how to succeed as a powerful woman on whatever path each of the girls wanted to discover as they follow their way to a Great Future.
With all ideas and inspiration points in the air, the mentees honed in their hopes and dreams on a vision board that they could reference in order to meet their future goals. From brainstorming career paths to thinking of the things that keep them going, the girls used magazines, stickers and more to put together a visual art piece that would guide them in the right direction.
Thank you to Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley for inviting Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast to be a part of this amazing event that we hope to emulate one day for girls all across the Central Coast!
