In a DIY STEM lesson, the Evans Park Club Kids made DIY rockets with Alka-Seltzers, water and small-snap containers. It was a fun and exciting way for members to learn about chemical reactions and pressure. As the gas builds up inside the sealed container, pressure increases until the lid pops off and launches in the air like a rocket.
The members at Evans Park had so much fun with this hands-on experiment. DIY Stem is a program through Boys & Girls Clubs of America, in which kids ages 9-12 get to try out science experiments to learn how scientists and engineers work out in their own fields. The program also teaches kids about collaboration in science, technology, engineering and math subjects.
