Meghan Harris, our Chief Operation Officer for North SLO Clubs has been part of a 3 year program training COO’s of Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the country. She recently completed her course with a final session of training known as the “Playmakers Conferene.”
Their day began with an inspiring session led by Stacy Blackmon, National Vice President of Metro Services for BGCA. She reminded them of the importance of leading with confidence and purpose, setting the tone with this powerful message; “I have nothing to prove and everything to provide”. This message of servant leadership was a grounding reminder of our shared North Star: we are serving and molding our future generations. We must give them our best.
For the closing session, Sally Williamson returned to deliver an impactful workshop, building on her themes from past years:
- 2022: Positioning big ideas
- 2023: Communicating through change
- 2024: Influencing outcomes
Sally emphasized the evolving role of communication in leadership, highlighting how effective communication drives decisions, engages listeners, and fosters connection to influence and achieve better outcomes. Her framework for impactful communication was particularly resonant, focusing on three key elements: establishing common ground and identifying the need for resolution (Situation), defining the opportunity or challenge (Solution), and providing proof points with actionable outcomes (Impact/Next Steps). They explored the power of body language, tone, and active listening in fostering meaningful connections. Key insights included breaking habits that hinder engagement, empowering teams by fostering ownership rather than solving every problem, and always considering the audience’s perspective and motivations.
