For the month of July, our members at Mary Buren & McKenzie took over the Santa Barbara Zoo, La Purisima Mission, Central Coast Aquarium, and Rancho Bowl in Santa Maria.
In July, we took both Mary Buren and McKenzie students to the Santa Barbara Zoo. By far it was the highest Friday of attendance. Our members had a chance to visit with all the animals at the zoo and have lunch.
Later in the month, Kindergarten through 3rd grade attended La Purisima Mission in Lompoc. Staff report this was the best field trip of the summer. Ranger Ann and her team were able to provide four stations with different activities. After that, she gave our group a guided tour of the mission. Our members were also able to enter the “jail” part of the mission which they loved. We ended our day by having lunch at the mission before heading back to the Club.
Fourth grade and McKenzie students went to the Central Coast Aquarium at Avila Beach. The aquarium provided lunch to our members. Groups had a chance to tour the aquarium and touch different types of sea life (including sharks!)
To wrap up summer we took all our members from Mary Buren and McKenzie to Rancho Bowl in Santa Maria. We took over the bowling alley for 2 hours. Our members had the chance to bowl against each other. We had a blast, especially because Rancho Bowl made it super fun by turning off the lights and turning on the disco balls and neon lights. Definitely a trip–and a Summer– our members will never forget.
