Teens Focus on Workforce Readiness Skills

The Boys & Girls Club of Mid Central Coast hosted  a 2-Day Career Camp and workforce readiness program in collaboration with the City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks.  The camp took place at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center with 22 students from various local high schools in attendance.

Career Camp topics included resume building, career planning, interview skills, and entrepreneurship exploration.  In addition to the learning modules, guest presenters included a senior program advisor from The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, the CEO of SMV Tech & Cal Poly lecturer, and representatives from the Youth Workers Leader Academy.

The program concluded with an afternoon of reverse mock interviews where students had the opportunity to ask career questions one-on-one with local professionals from various industries. At the end of camp, all participants were prepared with resumes and “elevator pitches”  ready to apply for their first time job!
