Youth of the Year Competition Takes Place in Solvang

The annual Youth of the Year luncheon and speech competition was recently held for all Clubs in the Coastal Area Council.  Youth of the Year is an annual essay and speech contest for teen Members across the country and the first step of the program is for Club Teens to participate at the council level.  Our Council consists of 10 Clubs:  Kern County, Greater Ventura, Oxnard/Pt. Hueneme, Camarillo, Santa Clara Valley, Moorpark/Simi Valley, United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara, Greater Conejo Valley, South SLO County and BGCMCC.  All Clubs spend the beginning of the year identifying Club Members with the best essay about their Club experience.  They then present their essay verbally and a winner is decided on the Club level.  Each Club winner advances to the Council level and presents among their fellow Club Youth of the Year at our Council luncheon.  Congratulations to Abraham Carillo-Galindo from BGCMCC for representing our Club so beautifully with his essay and presentation!  The winner of the Coastal Area Council is the teen member from the Kern County Club and she will be advancing to the Pacific Coast Regional competition.
