As part of the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, our organization celebrates the extraordinary achievements of our club youth through the Youth of the Year program. As our organizational Youth of the Year, our representative serves as a role model for younger club members and shines a spotlight on our movement within our community. It is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive and is awarded to a Club Member age 14-18. Our Youth of the Year goes on to compete at the regional level against other Club Youth of the Year in the hopes of reaching the State and ultimately National Youth of the Year award.
Additionally, we recognize our Jr. Youth of the Year–awarded to a Club member age 11 -13.
This year we are thrilled to announce that Jessenia “Jessie” Aguilar is our Youth of the Year and Haddie Neeley is our Jr. Youth of the Year.
Jessenia “Jesse” Aguilar is a senior at Santa Maria High School, where she has participated in the Drama Club, Alpine Club and played flute in the school band. She is the president of the Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Key Club, and was recognized by the city for outstanding leadership and community service. Jessie is also the current president of our Keystone Club here at Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast.
Haddie Neely is in the 5th grade at Creston Elementary School. She has been a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast for years and she says it’s one of her favorite places. Haddie loves animals and has been an active beekeeper for three years. When she’s not at the Club, she spends her time with her local 4-H club.
