This month at the Shandon Club has been filled with St. Patrick’s luck and fun! On March 14th, we had our first “Career Presentation” where the Shandon Club received a special visit from Maria Elena Benitez, a Bilingual Testing Proctor at the Cuesta College North County Campus. Maria had a presentation for our 3rd graders and up. She shared how she attended both Elementary and High School in Shandon and has a daughter who’s attended the club for 3 years. Although she works as a testing proctor, at a young age, Maria developed a passion for art. A graduate of Fresno State University, Maria received her bachelor’s degree in art and created beautiful masterpieces throughout her journey. At the end of the presentation Members were allowed to ask questions about her career, view and admire a few of Maria’s best and favorite pieces. A huge Thank You to Mrs. Benitez for being so kind and taking the time to visit and share her story with our Members.
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at the Shandon Club was a blast! Shoutout to our Middle School Members for filling up our windows with amazing art and helping decorate the classrooms with leprechaun spirit! Staff initiated the celebration by handing out tasty green sugar cookies and green berry rush flavored Hawaiian punch. After enjoying these treats, Members participated in a 4-leaf clover scavenger hunt where we had two “lucky“ winners that received a chocolate coin and chose a prize. Youth then competed in balloon races between teams where each member tied their balloon to a string before racing a Member from the opposite team to see who’s balloon made it across the classroom farthest. To end our day, Ms. Itzel led an oil pastel shamrock craft that added a nice touch to our festive art wall. We hope everyone had a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
