Listening Sessions Provide Insight Into Opportunities for Kids and Clubs

With three goals of learning, sharing and acting, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central convened a Listening Session between our Club leadership and an amazing network of Community Leaders from North SLO Communities.  Goal one was to learn: Gain new perspectives and insights.  Goal two was to share:  Provide helpful practices, ideas, or lessons and Goal three was to act: Identify one action step to take forward.  With these three goals in mind, the panel had a robust conversation about the needs of kids in the NSLO communities we serve.  Attendees included representatives from the Paso Robles School District, Cuesta College, People’s Self Help Housing, various law enforcement entities, the City of Paso Robles, County government, the Paso Robles Youth Art Center, Tolosa Children’s Dental Center, the Center for Family Strengthening, MUST! Charities, the SLO Community Foundation and more.

Attendees were asked to be thoughtful on questions like: What positive opportunities currently exist for youth in SLO County?  Where do you see gaps or unmet needs for young people and families? What partnership opportunities should we be exploring? What does the future of education look like for our youth?  The conversation was timely and all members were fully engaged and responsive.

This listening session, and a future session to be held in North Santa Barbara County in September, are all designed to help our board and staff plan our strategic vision for the coming years as we grow to serve more kids in the best ways possible.
