The Boys & Girls Club, in partnership with Guadalupe Union School District and the Dunes Center, recently transformed our members into scientists! Through an exciting hands-on experiment, our members rolled up their sleeves and extracted DNA from strawberries while using nothing more than everyday household items. This interactive activity wasn’t just a fun and squishy adventure (though there was plenty of that!), it also offered a tangible introduction to the world of genetics and genomics, showing our youth how the building blocks of life can be seen, studied, and understood. By blending curiosity with real-world science, this experience sparked wonder, deepened learning, and reminded us all that discovery can start with something as simple as a strawberry.
