Kids from our Flamson Clubhouse had a recent field trip to the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden and it was a fun-filled day full of exploration, learning, and connection with nature!
The kids had an amazing time walking along the Human Sundial Trail, where they learned how to use their own shadow to tell time—such a cool and interactive way to connect science with the natural world! They were full of curiosity as we made our way through the trail, pointing out plants and asking questions.
Next, we ventured into the Children’s Garden, where the excitement really kicked in. The kids worked in teams to complete a scavenger hunt packed with interactive and educational challenges. They got to see how tall they were, find animal poop (which sparked lots of laughs and curiosity!), do a weights activity to compare objects from nature, and learn about different animals and plants that call the garden home. Every stop along the way was an opportunity to engage their senses and expand their knowledge.
We also participated in a hands-on pollinator activity, where they learned all about bees, butterflies, and other helpful insects. They loved finding out how these little creatures help flowers grow and keep our ecosystems healthy. Our last stop was the Display Garden for Native People & Plants, which gave the group a chance to learn about local history and how Indigenous communities have used native plants for generations. It was a meaningful way to tie in culture, tradition, and sustainability.
By the end of the trip, the kids were tired—but glowing with joy from a day full of adventure, learning, and laughter. We’re so grateful for this experience and can’t wait for our next nature-filled outing!
